Dubai announces establishing world’s biggest vertical farm
(MENAFN) Emirates Flight Catering and Crop One Holdings have formally started what they title as the biggest vertical farm across the globe.
Positioned near to Al-Maktoum International Airport in Dubai, the institution, named Bustanica, is the initial vertical farm run by Emirates Crop One, a combined project between the two companies, it is supported by an investment of USD40 million.
Emirates Flight Catering, which provides over 100 airlines, hospitality groups and Emirati government agencies, is one of the world’s biggest catering companies.
Crop One Holdings, which is based in the US state of Massachusetts, is believed to be an industry highest in technology-motivated indoor vertical farming.
Bustanica, a 330,000-square-feet hydroponic farm, has been planned to harvest at least 1 million kilograms of high-quality leafy greens per year, consuming 95 percent less water than conservative agricultural systems, at any given time, over 1 million plants are going to be growing at the facility, with a day-to-day production of 3,000 kg.
