Turkish-flagged vessel carrying Ukrainian grain reaches port in northern Turkey

(MENAFN) A Turkish-flagged vessel transporting 12,000 tons of corn reached at a port in northern Turkey on Monday morning.

The Polarnet docked at Derince port, its last destination, three days after setting off from Ukraine’s Chornomorsk on Friday.

The ship, which got security permission from a team of the Joint Coordination Center (JCC) on Sunday, is anticipated to unload its load later in the day.

Oleksandr Kubrakov, Ukraine’s infrastructure minister, published a statement on Twitter that “The 1st POLARNET arrived at the port of Türkiye! Others ships will arrive at the ports of destination in the coming days.”

He greeted it is a “positive market signal” for the world and a “perfect example” of how the Black Sea grain initiative works because of the backing of the UN as well as Turkey.

On July 22, Türkiye, the UN, Russia and Ukraine inked an agreement in Istanbul to revive three Ukrainian Black Sea ports – Odesa, Chornomorsk, as well as Yuzhny – for the shipment of Ukrainian grain blocked because of the conflict with Russia, now in its sixth month.
