US official: Turkey, US concentrate more on small modular reactors, energy switching
(MENAFN) Turkey and the US can concentrate more on small modular reactors in nuclear energy as well as switching from fossil fuels to low-carbon energy supplies in their longer-term negotiation, a senior American official stated on Thursday.
Apart from the current obstacles of the energy crisis, gas provisions, and Russia's attack on Ukraine, the two nations are also dedicated to “the longer-term issue of transition,” according to Geoffrey Pyatt, assistant secretary of state for energy resources, during a three-nation trip to Bulgaria, Romania, in addition to Turkey.
After holding a conference with Alparslan Bayraktar, the Turkish deputy minister of energy and natural resources, and additional representatives and energy sector chiefs, Pyatt informed Anadolu Agency that he had “a very rich round of discussions” in Turkey, where he was taking a trip as part of a three-nation trip which started on the 10th of October up to the 14th which included Bulgaria and Romania as well.
“I found a very high degree of agreement with my Turkish counterparts on this visit regarding the importance of stability in the market, importance of our dialogue that we have established between Washington and Ankara on all of the issues around the geopolitics of global energy and energy transition,” the US official mentioned in the exclusive meeting on the offshoots of the Atlantic Council's Regional Clean Energy Outlook Conference in Istanbul.
