Jordan, Israel, UAE ink MoU to trade solar power for water
(MENAFN) Jordan, Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) inked on Tuesday a memorandum of understanding to force a venture entailing water in trade for solar energy.
The MoU was inked by Jordanian Minister of Water and Irrigation, Mohammad Al Najjar, UAE Climate Change and Environment Minister Mariam Al Mheiri as well as Israel’s current Regional Cooperation Minister Esawi Frej on the offshoots of the UN climate change conference in Egypt’s Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh.
The agreement targets to carry on feasibility studies for a UAE-brokered agreement inked a year ago to have Jordan supply solar energy to Israel, and Tel Aviv channels refined water to Amman.
The MoU promises to carry on “engaging to develop the necessary implements in plans in time for COP28,” which is going to be hosted in the UAE in November next year.
The deal is going to witness Israel buy solar power from the Jordan-based facility, which is going to be established by an Emirati company, and Jordan purchase water from an Israeli site to be built on the sideways of the Mediterranean coast.
