Iraq, Germany in discussions around probable gas shipments

(MENAFN) Germany is in discussions with Iraq around the probability of importing natural gas from the oil-rich nation, Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated on Friday, as Berlin challenges to diversify its energy bases to substitute a drop in Russian fossil fuel exports.

“We also talked about possible gas deliveries to Germany and agreed to stay in close contact,” Scholz informed report in a mutual news meeting with Iraqi Premier Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani in Berlin.

Scholz did not give additional information on the capacities of gas Germany hopes to ship in from Iraq.

Baghdad has proposed chances to German firms to fund in utilizing Iraq’s natural gas as well as the gas produced as a byproduct from oil output, Al-Sudani asserted, also mentioning that Iraq seeks to supply gas via a pipeline through Turkey to Europe.

Iraq carries to flare some of the gas pull out alongside crude oil because it has a shortage in the services to process it into fuel for domestic intake or shipments.
