Saudi tourism industry expenditure rises 93 percent to reach USD49B last year
(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia’s tourism expenditure rose 93 percent last year to reach SR185 billion (USD49 billion), surging from SR95.6 billion in the year before, as the nation carries on to diversify its economy under the Vision 2030.
The Minister of Tourism Ahmed bin Aqil Al-Khatib presented these figures throughout his monthly gathering with citizens, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.
Studying the accomplishments made by the industry throughout last year, the minister stated that: "The direct contribution of the sector in the gross domestic product amounted to 3.2 percent of the total target of 10 percent by 2030.”
Additionally, he pointed out that the figure of jobs last year amounted to 880,000, indicating a hike of 15 percent on a yearly basis.
Al-Khatib continued: “The percentage of Saudi women in the tourism sector also increased to reach 44 percent of the total workers in the sector.”
He also called on investors in the industry to follow to the new guidelines set by the ministry with the aim of reaching a healthy competitive environment that is both suitable as well as attractive to investment.
