Saudi Arabia Boosts Logistics Hub Aspirations Through Transportation Infrastructure Expansion

(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia's geographical location has made it a prime candidate for becoming a global logistics hub for the three continents of Asia, Africa, and Europe. The Kingdom has been consolidating its transportation infrastructure, which includes an extensive network of 72,000 km of roads, 3,690 bridges, and 76 tunnels, thereby solidifying its position as a leader in the logistics and transport sectors. The Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services is currently working on effective plans to connect distant regions and cities around the country, enabling easier movement of people and goods.

Furthermore, the ministry is also committed to enhancing the arrival and movement of visitors, tourists, and pilgrims to the two holy mosques. The Kingdom has been undertaking various initiatives to bolster its transportation infrastructure, such as adding 56 new roads totaling 1,610 km in 2022, as well as inspecting 608 bridges and 37 tunnels to ensure the infrastructure remains safe and secure.

In addition to its road network, the Kingdom has also been focusing on enhancing its air network. Last year, the King Salman International Airport was launched, along with two terminals of King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh. Furthermore, the Al-Qaisumah Airport was expanded, and the institutional transformation of 25 airports in the Kingdom was completed. These initiatives are aimed at improving the transportation infrastructure of the Kingdom, which in turn will help in boosting the country's economy and making it a more attractive destination for businesses, investors, and travelers alike.
