Hamad International Airport Records Impressive Passenger Traffic in Q1 2023
(MENAFN) Hamad International Airport in Qatar has reported a significant surge in passenger traffic, with a year-on-year increase of 44.5 percent, reaching 10.31 million in the first quarter of 2023. According to Qatar News Agency, the airport received 3.56 million passengers in January, 3.24 million in February, and 3.5 million in March. The airport also saw an 18 percent increase in aircraft movement to 56,417 in the first quarter of 2023. During the same period, it handled over 540,000 tons of cargo and moved over 8 million bags.
The surge in passenger traffic can be attributed to the airport's busy routes, with trips to London, Bangkok, and Dhaka driving the increase. Hamad International Airport's busiest destinations during the first quarter of the year were London, Bangkok, Dhaka, Manila, and Jeddah. With robust operations and investment in growth plans, the airport aims to continue magnifying its infrastructure and product offering to reinforce its competitive position in the aviation industry.
Badr Mohammad Al-Meer, Chief Operating Officer of Hamad International Airport, expressed his pride at the airport's impressive performance, stating, "These numbers demonstrate the resilience of our industry and the vital role that airports play in connecting people. We will always strive toward excellence and ensure that Hamad International Airport remains the top choice for passengers traveling to and from the Middle East and the world."
The airport's impressive performance is not limited to the first quarter of 2023. Last year, the airport registered a 101.9 percent increase in passenger traffic to 35.73 million passengers over 2021. It also witnessed a 28.3 percent increase in aircraft movements to 217,875 during the same period.
Overall, the increase in passenger traffic at Hamad International Airport highlights the airport's position as a major transportation hub in the Middle East. Its continued growth is expected to bring new opportunities for the aviation industry in Qatar and contribute to the country's economic development.
