King Abdullah Financial District Upgrades Infrastructure with Smart Solutions
(MENAFN) King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) in Saudi Arabia is continuing to upgrade its infrastructure with smart solutions as the Kingdom's future city looks to host "hundreds of thousands" of people in the coming years. Gautam Sashittal, the CEO of KAFD, stated during a panel discussion at the Future Hospitality Summit in Riyadh that footfall in the district continues to increase each year, and KAFD has undertaken a major project to develop a smart parking app that will allow people working or residing in the district to reserve a parking spot with a tap on their smartphones.
Currently, KAFD receives an average of 10,000 visitors a day, and Sashittal expects the number to increase significantly by the end of 2024 or early 2025. KAFD is going to be a 24/7 district that combines residential, commercial, entertainment, retail, and hospitality. The district currently has over 50 ongoing projects, with smart mobility being a key component of the area.
Towers in the district stay connected using intelligent and smart building management solutions, enabling seamless connectivity. KAFD offers other mobility solutions such as smart scooters, which provide a safe and efficient form of transportation, as well as shuttle buses within the district. KAFD is partnering with Google Maps to use z-axis vertical location technology to map the vertical parts of locations around buildings, ensuring visitors have a better way of navigating through the district.
KAFD's focus on smart solutions in upgrading its infrastructure is a step towards creating a sustainable and innovative city for the future. The district's aim to host "hundreds of thousands" of people in the coming years requires advanced mobility solutions to ensure seamless connectivity. With smart parking apps, smart scooters, shuttle buses, and Google Maps' z-axis vertical location technology, KAFD is on its way to achieving its goal of being a 24/7 district combining various sectors.
