Türkiye's Tourism Sector Flourishes with 9.5 Million Foreign Tourists in the First Four Months of 2023
(MENAFN) Türkiye continues to attract a significant number of foreign tourists, with official figures revealing that the country welcomed 9.5 million visitors from abroad during the first four months of this year. This marked a substantial increase of 27.51 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the Culture and Tourism Ministry.
Among the various destinations in Türkiye, Istanbul, the country's largest city and a renowned tourist hotspot, stood out as the top choice for foreign visitors. Over half of all foreign tourists, approximately 4.77 million individuals, chose Istanbul as their destination during the four-month period. The city's rich historical and cultural heritage, along with its vibrant atmosphere, continues to captivate travelers from around the world.
Following Istanbul, the Mediterranean resort city of Antalya emerged as another popular destination, attracting 1.6 million foreign tourists. Antalya's beautiful beaches, ancient ruins, and vibrant tourism infrastructure make it an appealing choice for leisure travelers seeking a relaxing getaway. Additionally, Edirne, located in northwestern Türkiye and bordering both Bulgaria and Greece, welcomed 1.1 million foreign visitors, offering unique cultural experiences and historical landmarks.
In terms of the nationalities of foreign tourists, Russia claimed the top spot, accounting for 12.1 percent of all visitors during the January-April period. This amounted to nearly 1.15 million Russian tourists choosing Türkiye as their travel destination. Germany followed closely behind, representing 10.14 percent of foreign visitors, while Bulgaria ranked third with 8.37 percent.
The month of April alone witnessed a substantial influx of foreign tourists, with 3.3 million visitors exploring the diverse attractions and natural beauty of Türkiye. This figure represented a notable increase of 29.03 percent compared to April of the previous year.
The surge in foreign tourist arrivals is a positive sign for Türkiye's tourism sector, highlighting the country's appeal and continued efforts to promote its rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and hospitality. The significant growth in visitor numbers bodes well for the recovery and vitality of Türkiye's tourism industry in the coming months.
