Jordan: over 1 million people visit Petra in 2019
(MENAFN) According to a statement by the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), in the year of 2019, more than 1 million people have visited Petra, setting an extraordinary record for the city.
In 2019, the number of foreign visitors to Petra grew by 49 percent in comparison with 2018 and out of 1,135,300 visitors to the city last year, 1,553,000 were foreigners, 129,144 were Jordanian and Arab visitors, while 5603 were students on field trips, as said by PDTRA Chairman Sulaiman Farajat.
The increase in visitors in the past 2 years, in comparison with the years 1995 to 2017, grew by 67 percent with 10,596,719 visitors, as he said.
According to Farajat, "PDTRA is constantly working to develop tourism services by improving infrastructure to facilitate visitors' movement into the site, in a manner that preserves its singularity in the first place, and creates sustainable development parallel to the overall tourism process in different sectors".
