    Turkey: tourism industry to incur losses of USD1 trillion from COVID-19 outbreak

    (MENAFN) Head of the World Tourism Forum Institute informed on Saturday that, the international tourism industry is set to experience losses of USD1 trillion from the COVID-19 outbreak.


    Bulut Bagci said highlighting Coronavirus' spreading speed and its impacts on the sector that, 50 million people working in the sector may lose their jobs.


    The international tourism market averages profits of USD1.7 trillion yearly, and over the outbreak, economic losses have already stood at USD600 million; "we believe the loss will reach at least USD1 trillion by the end of the year," as said by Bulut Bagci.


    About 70 percent of the travel sector has stopped and the virus' effects on the sector are increasing, he added.
