Iran sees nearly two-fold rise in its exports of sponge iron

(MENAFN) Iran has witnessed almost two-fold rise in its exports of sponge iron, a raw material mixed with scrap metal to make steel, regardless of a 10-percent tariff imposed on the shipments in 2019.

In the 11-month period ending late February, exports of sponge iron had increased by about 86 percent, according to a report by the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA).

Iron mills across Iran had shipped as many as 942,000 metric tons of sponge iron over the period, a major rise in comparison with the same period of 2018-2019, as the figures showed.

As said in the report, sponge iron exports in the last calendar year had dropped yearly by 25 percent.
