    Turkey's benchmark stock index starts Friday up

    (MENAFN) Friday began by Turkey's benchmark stock index with an increase of 0.28 percent or 278.48 points to start at 98,449.46 points.

    Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index grew 0.57 percent on Wednesday, to end at 98,170.98 points with a daily trading volume of USD1.7 billion.

    On Thursday, there were no transactions because of a public holiday in Turkey to mark the National Sovereignty and Children's Day and the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Turkish parliament on April 23.

    The USD/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.9870 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Friday, in comparison with 6.9980 at Wednesday's close.
