Yearly inflation rate in Sudan increases to 99 percent

    (MENAFN)

The state Central Bureau of Statistics of Sudan said on Saturday that the yearly inflation rate of the country has increased to 98.81 percent in April, rising from the 81.64 percent recorded a month earlier in March due to the increase in food, drink and fuel prices.

The inflation in Sudan has been increasing in recent years mostly due to food, beverages and black market for he USD.

The finance minister of the country has put a system of money transfers to the poor on Thursday in order to remove the expensive fuel subsidies to fight the economic crisis in Sunday.

The economy of Sudan has suffered harshly after the 2011 secession of oil-rich South Sudan, the country has lost about two thirds of its oil resources after the secession, which resulted in higher inflation and the devaluation of the Sudanese currency.
