Egypt's state-owned Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD) has achieved more than 90 percent of the construction efforts at the governmental district in the new capital city.

"New capital city is one of the most important projects in Egypt," stated ACUD spokesperson Khaled El Hosseini on Thursday, June 4th.

The new capital's governmental region is situated 45km (28 miles) east of Cairo over 170,000 feddans, the project is part of the Egyptian government's plan to enlarge urban areas to cope with the rapid population growth and enhance the nation's infrastructure.

The new city is agreed to be a 270-square-mile hub with 21 inhabited districts to accommodate five million people. It will feature 1,250 mosques and churches as well as a 5,000-seat conference center, nearly 2,000 schools and colleges, over 600 medical facilities, and a park that is predictable to be the world's largest.
