    Turkey- Coronavirus constricts retail sales volume in April

    Turkey's retail sales volume minimized by 19.3 percent on an annual basis in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the country's statistical authority showed on Friday, June 12th.

    Food, drinks, and tobacco sales in April increased by 12.5 percent in comparison with the same period last year, as stated by TurkStat.

    Non-food -except automotive fuel- sales minimized 36.7 percent on an annual basis in April while automotive fuel sales slipped 20.1 percent.

    Among non-food items, the volume of textile, clothing, and footwear sales declined the most, falling 77.2 percent during the same period. It was followed by computers, books, and telecommunications equipment sales with 35.6 percent and electronic goods and furniture sales with 26.7 percent in comparison with April 2019.
