    Agriculture reports for 8 percent of Iran's GDP

    (MENAFN) IRNA accounted that Kazem Khavazi Iranian Agriculture Minister stated that the agriculture sector accounts for almost eight percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP) which is around 40 billion United States dollar.

    On Sunday June 21 Khavazi stated speaking in a parliament open sitting that more than 4.3 million people are at present active in different fields of the declared division.

    Tipping to the significance of the agriculture sector in production, occupation creation, and ecological maintainability, Kazem Khavazi stated that "Despite the irreplaceable role of the agriculture sector in increasing economic resilience and growth in the absence of oil revenues, in recent years maximum investment in this sector has not been more than five percent.".

    The minister highlighted some of the significant targets of the agriculture ministry in the present Iranian agenda year (started on March 20) counting the development of food security, conservation of water, soil and genetic assets, rising the sustainable attendance of farmers in this sector and the optimistic equilibrium of the country's food trade.
