Borsa Istanbul forbids small selling for 6 international shareholders

(MENAFN) On Monday July 6 Turkey's Borsa Istanbul forbidden six international institutions from small selling the shares listed on the standard stock exchange.

Borsa Istanbul stated that the forbid will stay in force for Barclays, Credit Suisse and Merrill Lynch for three months, and Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, and Wood and Company will be forbidden for a month.

Borsa Istanbul stated that "Short selling means selling capital markets instruments that the seller does not own, or placing an order for such sales,", additionally that any sales "completed by using borrowed capital markets instruments to fulfill the settlement obligation relating to the sales" would also be added up as a small sale.

The Capital Markets Board of Turkey, which forbidden small sale contracts for the top 30 shares on Borsa Istanbul in February, lifted the limitation.
