    4 month banana imports place at 113.6 million USD

    (MENAFN) The spokesman of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) declared that Iran has imported 173,062 tons of banana worth 113.68 million USD throughout the first four months of the present Iranian agenda year (March 20-July 21).

    Mehr news agency accounted that Ruhollah Latifi first named Ecuador, India, Philippines, Turkey, Russia, Vietnam, and the UAE, as the major exporters of banana to Iran throughout the four month period.

    Zahra Jalili-Moqaddam director-general of Agriculture Ministry's Tropical and Subtropical Fruit Bureau stated that a standard of 450,000 tons of bananas are imported into Iran every year whereas home manufacture of the fruit stands at approximately 120,000 tons each year.

    Jalili-Moqaddam stated that the domestic production ability of bananas, in addition to other tropical fruits, is elevated than the present levels.
