COVID-19 fails to undermine U.S.-Turkey joint trade exchanges

(MENAFN) A senior government official said Thursday that notwithstanding the the novel coronavirus pandemic, Turkey's joint trade and business ties with the US have continued to improve.

Deputy Minister of Commerce Riza Tuna Turagay said during an online seminar on the future of Turkish-American trade relations, organized by the Turkish Heritage Organization, "The trade volume rose 3.5 percent on an annual basis during these extraordinary times when countries are struggling to trade with their partners."

He further stated that the USD 100 billion goal set by both countries for joint trade agreements is not political in nature.

The bilateral trade objective was raised from $75 billion to $100 billion in June 2019 by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his US counterpart, Donald Trump.

According to him, "Despite that we've seen some ups and downs in our bilateral relations, at the and of the day, it is all about trade and commercial relations."
