Dubai: GlobalData says AR technology may disrupt energy sector
(MENAFN) The leading data and analytics company, GlobalData, has expressed that even though the adoption of augmented reality (AR) is the next step for the oil and gas industry, the technology might disrupt the normal operational functions in the division for the upcoming five years.
The global AR market was worth USD40 billion in 2018, and is estimated to reach USD76 billion by 2030.
GlobalData released in its latest thematic report that the technology was used to inspect, maintain, and monitor applications, while employing training and on-field worker safety in the energy division. They also added that there are impressive improvements in both the hardware and software technology.
An Oil and Gas analyst at GlobalData ,Ravindra Puranik, noted: "The growing use of wearable devices, smartphones and tablets in the oil and gas industry is making it conducive for the adoption of AR applications in the industry."
"Combining AR with technologies such as the internet of things (IoT), big data and artificial intelligence (AI) will help in the creation of more holistic solutions for oil and gas applications, including real-time detection and repair of equipment breakdown," he highlighted during his statement.
