Syria trades oil for food
(MENAFN) According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), "Al-Qaterji" the pro-government business group resumes exporting oil, under the protection of Russia. They are sending it to government-controlled places in exchange for permitting food to be delivered to sections under the control of the Syria Democratic Forces (SDF).
Trucks and oil tanks, can be witnessed going through Al-Tayeh crossing in country-side Manbij in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, Al-Tabaqah and Al-Hourah crossings in country-side Al-Tabaqah in Al-Raqqah, and Al-Ma'amel crossing in country-side Deir Ezzor.
SOHR revealed that tens of oil trucks move crude oil every day, from the oil fields that are monitored by the SDF to regime areas, despite the official U.S. restrictions forced on the Syrian regime.
In the meantime, various necessities, products and goods, such as; vegetables, fruit, steel, cement, and electric appliances, are exported from regime-controlled areas to SDF areas.
But the war-monitor disclosed that SDF puts extra dues on the value of these items.
Surprisingly, the government-controlled areas are undergoing severe scarcity of energy products, as a direct result of international restrictions forced on the Syrian regime for years.
