Turkey predicts increase in automotive exports
(MENAFN) Ruhsar Pekcan, the Trade Minister in Turkey, stated on Monday, October 19th, that an impressive increase in automotive exports is predicted, for these upcoming months after the decline caused by Covid-19.
"We have the goal of playing a more active role in global supply chains in the coming period," she declared during a virtual meeting, referring to trades with Germany.
She added that Germany is still one of Turkey's most targeted markets.
Backing up the statement with numbers; Turkish exports to Germany rose 10.6 percent year-on-year in September, recovering from a decrease of 8.6 percent in the first nine months of this year due to the recent pandemic.
She highlighted that Turkey's automotive imports from Germany went up 115 percent to USD1.5 billion during the period from January to September.
"I expect our exporters to reach similar figures," Pekcan commented.
She also added that according to data taken from Automobile Manufacturer's Association (ACEA), the passenger car market in the EU dropped by 28.8 percent in the first nine months of 2020.
The head of Turkish Exporters' Assembly, Ismail Gulle, expressed that Turkey's automobile exports reached their pre-COVID-19 percentage by September after being aggressively delayed because of Coronvirus plants shutdowns.
