Turkey's trade suffers from unofficial boycott

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, October 21st, the head of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), said that he was worried about the political tension between Ankara and Riyadh that resulted in a semi-official boycott of Turkish goods in Saudi Arabia, which is affecting trade in the region.

Ismail Gulle expressed: "We all know that unfortunately trade is used as a tool in politics.""

He noted that the goal of politics is to ease trade and generate platforms that both parties are happy with, but at the moment the contrary is happening.

According to many media platforms, parties responsible for Saudi Arabia's commercial division is urging businesses to stop all trade with Turkey, boycott Turkish goods, investments and even visiting the country.

However, Saudi Arabia's government media branch has negated the reports, stating that it has not positioned any limitations on Turkish goods and is dedicated to international agreements, dealings and free trade.

Nevertheless, it is evident that there is some sort of informal agreement to reject all Turkish imports in the capital Riyadh, for signs have been seen in stores and around the city that encourage industries to boycott Turkish products, not to mention two hashtags that have been trending for a month now on social media: #Boycott_Turkish_Products and #Turkish_Products_Boycott_Campaign
