    Qatar set to support cash-strapped Lebanon

    (MENAFN)Qatar is set to support cash-strapped Lebanon with its economic recovery if its deeply divided political class accords on a new government.

    The outgoing cabinet has served in a custodian role from leaving in August previous year following public anger over the Beirut port explosion that caused over 200 people and damaged entire neighborhoods.

    Lebanon’s backbiting politicians’ failure to deal on a new government has drawn reproved from donors and warnings of “a social catastrophe” from UN agencies.

    In a visit to Beirut, Qatar’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani stated that “Under our policy, we only provide financial help through economic projects … that will make a difference to the country’s economy.”
