    Iran to add 440 kilometers of freeways, 1,200 km of highways to road network

    (MENAFN)Some 440 kilometers (km) of freeways and 1,200 km of highways are going to be set to the country’s road network by the end of this Iranian year, stated Iranian Deputy Transport and Urban Development Minister Kheirollah Khademi.

    The ministry put the completion of nine major freeway projects at the top of priorities that would have the main impact on the country’s transportation and transit operations in the past two years and these projects managed average progress of over 70 percent so far.

    IRIB quoted him as saying that “Two of the mentioned projects were put into operation in the previous year and 221 kilometers of freeways were completed across the country.”

    The completion of 221 km of freeways in the last year was achieved in spite of the fact that the yearly freeway construction in the country was 80 km, stated Khademi, he managing director of Iran's Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructures Company (CDTIC).
