(MENAFN) Based on official figures announced by Turkey on Monday, in spite of a dull year amidst Covid-associated movement constraints all over the globe, the country collected USD24.5 billion in tourism profits the previous year.

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) data, though increasing by two-folds from 2020, the figure for the past year dropped from the record high number of USD34.5 billion set in 2019, before the spread of coronavirus.

The country accommodated 29.4 million tourists the previous year, a raise of 85.5 percent in comparison to 2020, but dropped from 51.9 million in 2019. Regular tourism expenses for each capita amounted at USD1,029 in 2021, increasing from USD926 in 2020.
