Iran’s non-oil exports to free trade zones, economic regions reach USD1.2B

(MENAFN) The secretary of Iran’s Free Zones High Council stated that goods valued at around USD1.2 billion were imported to the nation’s free trade zones (FTZs) as well as specific economic regions in the last Iranian calendar year 1400 (ended on March 20).

Saeed Mohammad stated that of the said commodities, 40 percent were basic materials, 30 percent were essential commodities and 30 percent were passenger freight.

The official had also formerly mentioned that 40-45 percent of Iran’s export is from the nation’s free trade zones as well as specific economic regions.

The creation of free trade zones in the country goes back to the Iranian calendar year 1368 (March 1989- March 1990) after the drop in the nation’s oil revenue in the prior year which encouraged the government to support the non-oil exports.
