    Iran’s import increases 11 percent in opening month of new year

    (MENAFN) Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) has stated in an announcement that basic commodities dropping in the harbors of Iran increased 11 percent in the opening month of the present Iranian calendar year (March 21-April 20), versus the opening month of the last year.

    As declared by the PMO, 2.175 million tons of basic commodities were dropped in the harbors in the opening month of this year, while the figure was 1.968 million tons in the opening month of the last year.

    An authorized with the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) stated to ISNA that Iran imported 30.9 million tons of basic goods in the last Iranian calendar year 1400 (ended on March 20).

    Foroud Asgari, the deputy chief of IRICA for customs relations, stated that the imported goods were in 25 commodity sectors.

    Putting the worth of the imported basic commodities at USD19.6 billion in the last year, the authorized stated that the imports show a 60 percent increase in value and 32 percent upsurge in load, in comparison with the Iranian calendar year 1399.
