Turkey DM: Turkey doing highest efforts to resolve grain catastrophe
(MENAFN) Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar stated on Friday that Turkey is doing its highest efforts to resolve the grain catastrophe which arose amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Akar stated in a meeting with broadcaster CNN Turk that " We are doing our best to end the grain crisis. Hopefully, we'll end it with this deal. Dialogue between countries is important."
Akar's comments came after a major agreement signed by Turkey, the UN, Russia as well as Ukraine on the continuation of Ukraine’s grain export via Black Sea ports.
Turkish Leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday inked an agreement in Istanbul to continue Ukraine’s Black Sea grain exports. They were joined by administrators from Russia as well as Ukraine.
Akar stated that the goal of the agreement is to ease safe navigation for the shipment of grain as well as additional food items from the Ukrainian ports of Odesa, Chernomorsk and Yuzhny.
He also stated that a combined coordination center is going to be established in Istanbul for this target.
