    Istanbul Airport records highest number of travelers in June

    (MENAFN) Based on the figures from the European Airport Trade Association released on Wednesday, Istanbul Airport was the busiest airport in Europe in June, receiving a staggering 5.996 million travelers.

    According to data from the Airports Council International (ACI) Europe, passenger traffic increased 115.4 percent over last year despite being slightly lower than its pre-pandemic level (1.7 percent).

    With 5.91 million passengers, London's Heathrow Airport finished in second. The traffic at the British hub increased by 526 percent annually but decreased by 17.3 percent from the previous year.

    Following it were Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport with 5.23 million travelers and Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport with 5.45 million.

    With 3.91 million passengers last month, Antalya Airport in the Turkish Mediterranean resort city was the seventh busiest airport in Europe.

    According to figures, the total number of passengers passing through the network of European airports increased by 247 percent or 660 million in the first half of the current year.
