    Turkish airports witness surge in passengers to 96.6M so far in 2022

    (MENAFN) Turkish airports held over 96.6 million air passengers – counting in transit passengers – so far this year, the nation's airports authority declared on Monday.

    The January-July number increased 68.6 percent annually, State Airports Authority General Directorate data presented.

    An amount of 44.1 million passengers flew through local flights so far this year, whereas 52.4 million went on international flights.

    Turkey’s airports helped more than 1 million planes, such as overflights, in the opening seven months of this year, of these, 422,152 were on local routes while 369,482 on international ones.

    The directorate also stated that cargo traffic surged 24.6 percent from 2021 to almost 2.2 million tons.

    Istanbul Airport hosted 34.3 million passengers on both international as well as domestic roads and served 232,113 airplanes in the seven-month span of time.

    The second-demanding hub was Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen Airport on the city's Anatolian side, which held 16.6 million air passengers.

    It was trailed by Antalya Airport in the Turkish Mediterranean resort city, which hosted 15.2 million passengers.
