Iranian Deputy Transport declares Rasht-Astara railway might be completed by 2026
(MENAFN) Iranian Deputy Transport and Urban Development Minister Kheirollah Khademi has stated that Rasht-Astara railway can be finalized within four years if the needed investment is supplied for the venture.
Khademi made the comments in a conference with a Russian representative in the capital of Iran on Monday, as reported by the portal of Transport Ministry.
Khademi stated that “From a technical point of view, there are no obstacles in the way of implementing the project, and according to the similar experience in Qazvin-Rasht railway construction, if the necessary resources are provided by Russia, this strategic railway will be completed within three to four years.”
Stating in this conference, the Iranian deputy minister highlighted the necessity of the International North-South Corridor (INSTC) as a central transport highway from St. Petersburg to the ports of Iran and India and stated that “The North-South Corridor connects the countries of Northern Europe, Scandinavia, and Russia through Iran with the countries of the Persian Gulf, the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia, and its completion will make the cheapest and fastest transit route available to these countries.”
