    Istanbul month-on-month travelers jump to 10-year peak

    (MENAFN) Istanbul, the most populous city in Turkey and a popular tourist destination, welcomed 1.8 million international tourists in July, breaking a 10-year record.

    Foreign tourists increased by 56 percent in July compared to last year, with 1.7 million arriving in the city by air and 28,827 by sea, according to data from the Istanbul Provincial Culture and Tourism Directorate issued on Wednesday.

    Over half as many people arrived by air than by sea during the same time period last year, while approximately 900 percent more people arrived by sea.

    Istanbul also received 8.5 million, or 36.9 percent, of all international visitors to the nation in the first seven months of the year.

    Turkey itself attracted more than 23 million foreign travelers this first 7 months, increasing 128 percent yearly, shown by the official data.

    Germans constituted in the lion’s share of visitors to Istanbul with 142,077, followed by Russia with 133,218, the US with 97,355, as well as Iran with 94,708.
