    Turkey welcomes more than 29 million Foreign travelers in 8 months

    (MENAFN) More than 29 million travelers came to Turkey in the first 8 months of this year, surging to over double the number in the same months of 2021, as shown by official data issued on Friday.

    The Culture and Tourism Ministry stated that the most recent number of 29.3 million indicated a rise of 108.5 percent from 2021.

    The first 8-month period figure reached 14.1 million last year, 7.2 million in the year before (2020), and 31 million in in the preceding (2019).

    Istanbul, Turkey’s most known town and its biggest by population, was the highest attraction for foreign travelers, drawing 10.2 million visitors.

    It was shadowed by the resort town of Antalya with 8.6 million travelers, whereas Edirne, a city in Turkey northwest neighboring Bulgaria and Greece, hosted 3.1 million travelers.

    At 3.85 million, Germans constituted in 13 percent of all tourists, next comes Russians at slightly more than 3 million, Britons 2.4 million, Bulgarians 1.7 million, in addition to Iranians at 1.5 million.
