Somalia’s president visits Ethiopia to discuss growing financial relations
(MENAFN) The presidents of Ethiopia and Somalia on Wednesday motioned that the neighbors are going to lay higher concentration on financial relations in the approaching moths.
Premier Abiy Ahmed greeted Somali leader Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud on a two-day working trip to the capital Addis Ababa, his initial visit to the nation since winning the elections this May.
For the last couple of decades, Ethiopia has been at the lead of local backing for Somalia’s fight versus al-Shabaab, a terror group associated with al-Qaeda.
Whereas Ethiopia keeps a vital part in the African Union Mission in Somalia that is involved in processes versus al-Shabaab, Abiy informed Mahmoud that Addis Ababa wants to follow financial collaboration with Mogadishu.
He assured Ethiopia’s willingness to operate at several rates with the new Somali administration “with particular emphasis on economic growth,” as said by an announcement from Abiy’s office.
The statement mentioned that “He further reiterated that Ethiopia desires a stronger and stable Somalia which is useful for Ethiopia.”
