PMO chief: Iran’s maritime Industry sees huge growth
(MENAFN) The chief of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) stated that luckily, an evolution has happened in the maritime area of the nation.
Ali-Akbar Safaei made the comments in a ceremony to rejoice World Maritime Day on Monday, which was also joined by Transport and Urban Development Minister Rostam Qasemi in addition to some additional representatives such as the chiefs of maritime sectors and some MPs.
The representative also declared that “The country's maritime position in the fleet sector ranks 17th among countries in the world, and in terms of the number of registered ships, we have more than 13,000 ships and the number of sailors on the ship reaches more than 120,000.”
Mentioning that 107 million tons of goods have been imported and exported in the ports of the nation since the start of the ongoing Iranian calendar year (March 21), the PMO chief stated that “We have had also significant growth in the field of transit, and with the support of the transport minister, infrastructure projects worth 260 trillion rials (about USD930 million) have been defined and become a commitment.”
