    Qatar launches initial solar plant valued at USD467m

    (MENAFN) On Tuesday, Gas-rich Qatar installed its initial solar power plant extending throughout the whole the desert, a massive location prepared to supply up to 10 percent of the Gulf nation’s energy provision.

    The solar farm in Al-Kharsaah, west of the capital Doha, is “one of the biggest” in the Middle East, as stated by Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the emirate’s energy minister and leader of QatarEnergy.

    It was established 6 years ago (2016) in cooperation with France’s TotalEnergies as well as Japan’s Marubeni as part of a broader drive by Qatar — one of the glob’s largest manufacturers of liquified natural gas — to finance in solar energy.

    The venture, at an expense of 1.7 billion Qatari riyals (around USD467 million), contains of nearly 1.8 million solar panels as well as covers an area of over 10 sq. km.

    Functioning since June, the plant has a volume of 800 MW and is going to “expand” additional in approaching years, Al-Kaabi informed a press meeting.
