Saudi fish output to reach 119,000 tons this year, nearing 60 percent self-sufficiency

(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia's fish output is estimated to amount to 119,000 tons by the end of 2022, putting the nation nearly at 60 percent of self-sufficiency, as stated by the minister of environment, water, and agriculture.

While giving a speech to Al Ekhbariya news channel, Abdulrahman Al-Fadley showed that output has surged almost by fourfold in the last 6 years (since 2016), when 32,000 tons were being outputted.

He also mentioned that around there are 235 fishing ventures in the nation, in comparison with 67 ventures in 2016 six years ago.

As the nation has localized the fishing job, more than 2,000 Saudi fishermen are today capable to train for the profession while shipping to at least 35 nations across the whole world.

The ministry declared previously in 2022 that Saudi Arabia is operating to create a domestic hub for fisheries as part of its larger targets to diversify the economy as well as address food security.
