Libya , Italy ink USD8B gas agreement as premier Meloni takes trip to Tripoli
(MENAFN) Italy’s premier hosted discussions in Libya on Saturday with administrators from the nation’s west-located administration concentrating on energy and migration, highest problems for Italy and the European Union. Throughout the trip, the two nations’ oil firms inked a gas agreement valued at USD8 billion — the biggest single funding in Libya’s energy industry in over 20 years.
Libya is the second North African nation that prime minister Giorgia Meloni, three months in charge, took a trip to this week. She is looking to obtain additional provisions of natural gas to sub Russian energy following Moscow’s attack on Ukraine.
She earlier took a trip to Algeria, Italy’s major provider of natural gas, where she inked many memorandums.
Meloni reached the Mitiga airport, the only working airport in Libya’s capital, Tripoli, after high protection, along with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani as well as Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, her office stated.
She encountered with Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, who rules one of Libya’s competitive administrations, as well as met with Mohamed Younis Menfi, who rules Libya’s ceremonial presidential council.
