Qatar Airways seeks quick expansion as travel request surges

(MENAFN) Qatar Airways declared programs for quick expansion on Tuesday, as the travel sector regains from the epidemic.

Declaring targets at the ITB tourism fair in Berlin, the Gulf carrier stated that it would add seven destinations, regain 11 others and grow the frequency of flights to 35 markets — indicating a 21 percent surge in flights within July this year, in comparison with the same month in 2022.

CEO Akbar Al Baker, addressing in his first appearance since settling a main legal dispute with Airbus, stated that the airline was being conservative because of its reliance on deliveries from Airbus or Boeing after provision woes.

"Unfortunately, it is not in their hands; I think supply chain problems will last a bit longer," Al Baker informed a news meeting throughout the world's biggest tourism expo.

Newly targeted airline destinations involve five in Europe, involving three in France, as well as two in Africa.

"The aviation industry is slowly rebounding ... (from) unprecedented pressures," Al Baker stated.
