Iran imports goods valued over USD1.4b from East Azarbaijan in 11 months
(MENAFN) According to an announcement by a provincial official, East Azarbaijan province, located in the northwest of Iran, exported 2.649 million tons of commodities valued at USD1.436 billion during the first 11 months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2022-February 19, 2023). Leili Orangi, an official with the province's customs department, stated that the 11-month export increased by four percent in weight, but fell by three percent in worth year-on-year.
Orangi listed various products such as steel products, plastic materials and objects, chemical products, petrochemical products, and dry fruits such as dates, pistachios, and raisins, as the major products exported from the province in the mentioned period. She also mentioned the significant export of petroleum products, copper products, grain products, glass and glass products, and machines and mechanical devices. The main export destinations were Turkey, Iraq, Armenia, United Arab Emirates, Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Afghanistan, Bulgaria, Pakistan, and Russia.
In addition, the official revealed that 386,000 tons of products valued at USD1.207 billion were imported to the province during the first 11 months of the year, with a one percent fall in weight and a 17 percent rise in value year-on-year. She identified machinery and mechanical devices, chemical products, tobacco, plastic materials and objects made of these materials, separate parts of road construction machinery and automobiles, wood and wooden objects, cast iron and steel, electrical machines and devices, and cocoa bean and powder as the main imported items. The major sources of imports were Turkey, United Arab Emirates, China, Germany, South Korea, Italy, India, Georgia, Spain, and Japan.
The significant increase in the value of imports and the slight decrease in the weight of imports can be attributed to the high demand for machinery and mechanical devices and chemical products in the province. On the other hand, the rise in the value of exports can be attributed to the increasing demand for steel products, dry fruits, and petroleum products in the global market. The province's strategic location and its proximity to neighboring countries have also contributed to its success in the export and import markets. The province's customs department is continuously working to improve its trade relations with other countries and explore new markets for its products.
