Iran experiences 20 percent increase in daily gasoline consumption
(MENAFN) According to Jalil Salari, the head of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), Iran's average daily gasoline consumption has risen to 105 million liters in the current Iranian calendar year, which marks a 20 percent increase from the previous year. Salari mentioned that gasoline production in the country has also increased by 10,000 liters from 105,000 liters to 115,000 liters. However, if consumption is not managed, the country could soon face an imbalance between supply and demand.
Salari stated that the surplus gasoline production is currently being stored to be used in critical situations and peak demand periods. Despite the significant consumption hike during the New Iranian Year (Nowruz) holidays, where daily gasoline consumption records reached 120 to 130 million liters, there have not been any issues regarding supply. He mentioned a special consumption management program that has been prepared for the Nowruz holidays and will be implemented from March 21 until April 9.
Salari further stated that enough petroleum products are stored in 84 storage tanks across the country, and fuel supply is done through 14,000 kilometers of pipelines. The NIORDC head also addressed the issues regarding gasoline export and import in the current year, stating that Iran did not import gasoline but rather swapped the product.
With the current trend of car production in Iran, where more than one million vehicles are added to the transportation cycle every year, Salari emphasized that Iran would need a billion liters of fuel annually. While the increase in gasoline consumption shows a growing economy and a rise in personal vehicles, it also highlights the importance of implementing sustainable measures to manage and balance supply and demand to avoid future shortages.
