Iran's Thermal Power Plants Increase Electricity Generation Capacity by 1,035 MW

(MENAFN) Iran's Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH) has announced an increase of 1,035 megawatts (MW) in the electricity generation capacity of the country's thermal power plants during the past Iranian calendar year 1401, which ended on March 20. According to Esmaeil Namazi, TPPH's technical office for production director-general, this increase was achieved through the construction of new power plant units and the implementation of plans to increase the generation capacity of gas and combined cycle units while removing the limitation of thermal power plants.

Namazi further stated that last year, the capacity of 286 power plants in Iran increased by approximately 1,035 MW. More than two-thirds of Iran's thermal power plants are owned and operated by the private sector, which generates nearly 67 percent of Iran's thermal power. Currently, there are a total of 478 thermal power plants operating throughout Iran, including both gas power plants and combined cycle plants.

Iran's total power generation capacity currently stands at around 85,000 MW, with more than 90 percent supplied by thermal power plants. The achievement of increasing the electricity generation capacity of thermal power plants by 1,035 MW is a significant milestone for Iran's power industry, which is crucial to the country's economy. The non-stop activities of the power industry workers played an essential role in achieving this goal on time. The increase in electricity generation capacity will help meet the country's growing demand for electricity and support its economic growth in the years to come.
