Iran's Renewable Power Plants Capacity Increased by 0.9 Percent Last Month of Past Iranian Year

(MENAFN) Iran's renewable power plants capacity has increased by 0.9 percent in the last month of the past Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20. The total capacity of the country's renewable power plants reached 1,038.03 megawatts (MW) by March 20, reflecting the government's efforts to expand its renewable energy sector.

Iran's wind power plants had a total capacity of 354.89 MW, while solar farms reached a capacity of 449.55 MW. Hydroelectric power plants also reached the capacity of 100.78 MW, and the capacity of biomass power plants stood at 12.5 MW.

The Iranian Energy Ministry has set a target to add 10,000 MW to the capacity of the country's renewable power plants by the end of the current government's administration in August 2025. This target represents a 13-fold increase from the 800 MW of renewable power generation capacity when the current government took office in August 2021.

In January 2022, the Energy Ministry and some of the country's private contractors signed memorandums of understanding (MOU) to cooperate in the construction of new renewable power plants across Iran. Two weeks ago, the head of Iran's Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA), Mahmoud Kamani, announced the construction of 110,000 solar power plants with a capacity of five kilowatts (KW) for low-income groups in the current Iranian calendar year, which began on March 21.

Kamani also announced that the tender for the construction of solar power plants with a capacity of 2,200 megawatts, left over from the plan for the construction of solar power plants with 4,000 megawatts capacity in the past year, will be held this year.

In terms of the follow-up of the construction of renewable power plants in the new year, Kamani stated that a plan for the construction of renewable power plants was announced by the minister of energy at the beginning of the 13th government, and in the past Iranian year, the necessary preparations for the implementation of this plan have been followed up, and some measures have been taken in this regard.

Overall, the Iranian government's commitment to expanding its renewable energy sector is evident in its targets and actions. The increase in renewable power plants capacity reflects the government's efforts to meet the country's energy demands sustainably and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. With continued efforts and investment, Iran's renewable energy sector is poised for significant growth in the coming years.
