Rapid Adoption of Information Technology in Saudi Establishments
(MENAFN) Saudi establishments are embracing information technology at an impressive pace, as indicated by the high internet usage rates recorded in various sectors. According to the 2022 Survey of Information and Communication Technology Access and Usage by Establishments conducted by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT), a remarkable 96.1 percent of Saudi establishments utilized the internet last year. Education and manufacturing activities stood out with internet usage rates of 98.6 percent and 97.6 percent, respectively.
The survey highlighted that establishments engaged in information and communication activities topped the list with the highest internet usage, reaching 98.9 percent. Furthermore, when it comes to communication infrastructure, approximately 58.7 percent of businesses utilized fixed phones for their operations, while mobile phones were employed by 76 percent of establishments.
In terms of computer usage, the survey revealed that 94.6 percent of establishments relied on computers, with 67.8 percent providing training to their employees on computer programs and applications. The education sector exhibited the highest level of computer utilization, with an impressive 99.7 percent of establishments in this field incorporating computers into their operations.
Regarding internal networking, 69.4 percent of establishments reported having an intranetwork, which is a private network within an organization. These intranetworks were predominantly found in the finance and insurance sectors. Additionally, the survey noted that only 45.6 percent of companies utilizing the internet had a website, with financial and insurance activities leading in website adoption.
Social media presence was another aspect explored in the survey, with approximately 52.6 percent of institutions in Saudi Arabia having a social media account. Notably, the education sector accounted for a significant portion of these institutions with social media presence.
