Lebanon seeks stability in pound exchange rate

(MENAFN) The Lebanese central bank announced its target to maintain its currency's exchange rate at stable levels within this year.

Lebanon's central bank, its governor Riad Salameh confirmed, recorded last year a 3.5 percent jump in its deposits.

According to the bank's governor, "for 2019, our goals will always be for the stability of the Lebanese pound exchange rate. Our view of interest rates is stable."

Deposits in foreign currencies registered the major surge, Salameh noted, adding that "the deposits in Lebanese pounds remained at the same level, raising dollarisation to 70 percent in the Lebanese markets."
