    Gross debt stock of Turkish government reaches USD229 billion

    Official data released on Wednesday showed that the gross debt stocknot the central government of Turkey came in at a total of USD229 billion by the end of April.

    The Treasury and Finance Ministry of the country said that the figure showed an increase of 30 percent compared to the same month a year earlier.

    The outstanding debt of public sector institutions, the Central Bank, private companies, and households are all included in the gross debt stock.


    According to the Ministry, over half of the debt stock, equalling around USD119 billion, came in foreign currencies, and that USD126 billion of the debt was domestic as the remaining USD98 billion is external.
