IATA: Middle East carriers experience 15 percent drop in air cargo capacities in October

(MENAFN) Economic headwinds throughout the whole world carried on its impact on air cargo request in October, as Middle Eastern carriers experienced a 15 percent drop in air cargo capacities in comparison to the same time span in 2021, as said by the International Air Transport Association.

The October report from the association, which records an amount of 290 airlines constituting in 83 percent of worldwide air traffic, showed that the effect of the financial headwinds on the flying industry might even continue in the next year.

“Air cargo continues to demonstrate resilience as headwinds persist. Cargo demand in October — while tracking below the exceptional performance of October 2021 — saw a 3.5 percent increase in demand compared to September. This indicates that the year-end will still bring a traditional peak-season boost despite economic uncertainties,” as stated by IATA’s Director General Willie Walsh.

He continued: “As 2022 closes out it appears that the current economic uncertainties will follow into the New Year and need continued close monitoring.”
